Teen Program: Galentine’s Day at the Library

We watched a sappy musical, made hand warmers, played spin the nail polish bottle, and took the selfie challenge. Conversation hearts and copious amounts of chocolate were readily available. This was a fun low-key and easy program. I’ve never made an easier craft with the teens. The spin the nail polish bottle was a fun game where we ended up with multi-colored nails. In the selfie challenge we showed of our newly painted nails and hand warmers.

*Boys were invited to attend if they were interested.

New Sew hand warmers

Supplies:

  • Have them bring their own valentine’s day themed crew socks
  • scissors
Heart Socks
  1. lay out the socks flat. Cut each sock in half just above the heal. Discard the foot part of your socks.
  2. Measure where to put the thumb hole. Try on your hand warmers. The cuff side of the sock goes on your forearm. The cut part of the sock goes on your hand. Your fingers should stick out of the end of the sock.
  3. Measure the thumb hole based on the part of the thumb closest to your hand.
  4. Finally, poke a hole where you want your thumb to come out. You don’t need a huge hole. The hole in sock will most likely stretch out.
  5. That’s it! No sew and super cute! Show off your new hand warmers.
Doing our Nails

Spin the Nail Polish bottle

Supplies:

  • 5 to 10 different colors of nail polish (Number of bottles depends on the size of the board you make.)
  • Valentine colored sheet of construction paper
  • compass drawing tool
  • Markers
  • 1 small brad
  • Ruler

Instructions:

  1. Print an arrow or make an arrow out of construction paper. Cut out and set aside.
  2. With your ruler, find the center of your paper.
  3. With the paper landscape oriented, use the compass draw a big circle on your paper leaving about an inch at the top and bottom. (If you want, you can decorate the inside of the circle with hearts and polka-dots.)
  4. Make the sections for your bottle to sit on by drawing lines from the edge of the circle to the edge of the paper.
  5. In the middle of the circle poke a hole. This is where the spinner arrow is going to be attached.
  6. Poke a hole in the middle of the arrow. Put the brad through both holes and bend the ends flat against the backside of the paper.
  7. Now you have your game board.
